Estyn Inspection
Estyn Inspection
February 2025
We are absolutely delighted with the findings of the Estyn inspection. The report reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff, pupils, and the entire school community. It is particularly pleasing to see recognition of the positive attitudes to learning and behaviour displayed by nearly all our children. At Oak Field, we strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every child can flourish. We are truly at the heart of the Gibbonsdown community, and this report is a testament to the strength of that community spirit. Our goal is to continue striving for excellence, ensuring that every child receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
Some of the key findings from the inspection that we are particularly proud of include:
-
A welcoming, happy, and inclusive school where pupils and families feel safe and valued. Where ‘nearly all pupils develop positive attitudes to learning and behaviour’.
-
Strong leadership that is responsive to the needs of both pupils and the wider community.
-
High aspirations and expectations for all pupils regardless of their backgrounds, and the school focuses on high quality teaching, carefully targeted support, and a wide range of aspirational experiences.
-
Pupil engagement and well-being being at the heart of everything we do, which has helped us foster a culture of pride and positive attitudes to learning.
-
A creative curriculum that empowers pupils to lead their learning, develop their creative skills, and engage in authentic experiences such as overseas trips and working with local artists.
Additionally, we were especially pleased to have two Spotlight features in the report that highlight areas where we are making a significant impact:
-
Developing effective partnerships with parents to support pupils' learning and well-being: Estyn highlighted the positive impact of our parental engagement offer including our community café, workshops, and the Big Bocs Bwyd initiative, which have all contributed to improving pupil attendance, attitudes to learning and the well-being and progress of most pupils.
-
Developing a creative curriculum through a focus on the expressive arts and inquiry-based learning: Our curriculum was celebrated for its creativity and for providing pupils with real-world, engaging experiences, such as working with local artists and engaging in inquiry-based learning that fosters critical thinking and collaboration.
Looking forward, we are committed to building on this success by addressing recommendations made in the report, including enhancing pupils' Welsh oracy skills and providing more opportunities for pupils to influence school life.
