Safeguarding

At Oakfield Primary, the safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils and expect all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment.

Our Commitment

We believe that:

• All children have the right to feel safe, secure and protected from harm.

• Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

• Children must be listened to and their concerns taken seriously.

• All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, have equal rights to protection.

Our Safeguarding Team

If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a child, please speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team:

• Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP): Mrs Bladon - Deputy Headteacher

• Deputy DSP: Mr Tweedley - Headteacher

• Governor with responsibility for safeguarding: Mrs Treweeks

You can contact the Safeguarding Team via the school office on 01446 744606 or by email at oakfieldps@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.

Key Policies

Our safeguarding practices are underpinned by a number of key policies, which are reviewed annually and available on our website or by request from the school office. These include:

• Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy

• Behaviour and Anti-Bullying Policy

• Online Safety Policy

• Safer Recruitment Policy

• Whistleblowing Policy

We follow the guidance set out in:

• Keeping Learners Safe (Welsh Government)

• Working Together to Safeguard People (Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014)

• Prevent Duty Guidance to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism

Training and Awareness

All staff receive regular safeguarding training and updates. We ensure that everyone working with our pupils understands their responsibilities and knows how to respond to concerns appropriately.

Working in Partnership

We work closely with parents, carers, the local authority, health services, and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for all children.

We encourage a culture of openness and transparency where pupils feel safe and are confident to speak to a trusted adult if they are worried or upset.

Speak Up – We’re Here to Help

If you’re ever concerned about a child, whether you’re a parent, carer, visitor or member of the community, don’t wait—speak to us. Safeguarding is too important to delay.
